Would you believe me if I told you that fifty percent of the worlds population is not treated equally night fifth of America as other fifty percent? The answer is probably no but you will be surprised to find that this is not true. Your name is Alex. You work in an office with seventy people. There is another person named Alex who works the same job as you. You are equals. You are both 5'10" with light brown hair and blue eyes. You both work eight hours Monday through Friday and five hours on alternate Saturday's. You both get paid nine dollars an hour. Or do you? One month you and Alex count the money you've earned. Something is wrong Alex has one thousand five hundred and thirty dollars but you only have one thousand four hundred forty eight dollars and eighty cents. The reason for this amazing discrepancy is the fact that you are a women and Alex is a man. Across the United States of America there are instances happening like this everyday and everywhere. Women, a half of the world population, are being discriminated against and not treated equally. The problem of women's rights comes into play when in everyday life. What happens is people put certain descriptions and stereotypes in their heads when dealing with women and so the treat them differently than if the women were men. This happens everywhere. For instance an example would be giving a man the job as head construction worker because through history construction has become a masculine job. This type of gender profiling has sparked a movement called feminism. The definition of feminism according to Merriam Webster is: the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. Feminists want men and women want men and women to have equal opportunities in every aspect of life including, work, social, marital, and rights about how they are viewed. Even though some people might argue that women rights is an outdated issue that is a waste of time and argue that men and women are already equal with facts like women hold more jobs than men, women's rights require more attention and work because they do not have the same rights when it comes to marriage and women are treated with social inequality and are unequally paid compared to men.
